We are deeply saddened to share that we have lost our beloved Leona Humchitt, Climate Action Coordinator for the Haíɫzaqv Climate Action Team. Leona was not only a leader in our work but also our mother, auntie, friend, and mentor who dedicated her life to protecting Haíɫzaqv lands and waters.
Her unwavering commitment to climate action, Indigenous sovereignty, and community well-being leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire us. Leona’s work bridged generations, ensuring that future Haíɫzaqv youth would inherit a healthier, more sustainable world. Her voice, wisdom, and fierce advocacy will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Káníɫkás Desiree is the Executive Director for the Haíɫzaqv Climate Action Team, providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for all initiatives, including managing organizational resources, guiding team efforts, and ensuring alignment with the Haíɫzaqv worldview and Clean Energy Plan. Desiree continues to lead efforts to strengthen marine-based food sovereignty through community engagement, strategic planning, and partnership building.
