Aquaponics Demonstration Farm Initiative

Empowering Students Through Sustainable Agriculture

We are excited to announce a groundbreaking new project at Health to Climate Action! In collaboration with Vancouver Island University (VIU) student Jaden Iverson, we are designing and establishing an aquaponics demonstration farm at Bella Bella Community School. This initiative merges hands-on education with sustainable living practices, empowering students to contribute to a greener, more resilient future.

About the Project

Jaden Iverson is leading this innovative project by designing a unique aquaponics system that will:

  • Serve as a practical learning tool for students.

  • Demonstrate the principles of sustainable agriculture.

  • Highlight the connection between food production, water conservation, and climate resilience.

Once operational, the system will provide students with an immersive, educational experience while addressing critical environmental and food security challenges.

Project Timeline

  • January 2025: Installation of the aquaponics system at Bella Bella Community School.

  • 2025 and Beyond: Ongoing collaboration between VIU, Bella Bella Community School, and Health to Climate Action to enhance education and community engagement.

Community Benefits

This initiative is designed to:

  • Inspire and educate students about sustainable farming practices.

  • Promote environmental stewardship and climate resilience.

  • Support healthy living through local, sustainable food production.

Looking Ahead

We are proud to partner with Jaden Iverson, VIU Students, and Bella Bella Community School on this transformative project. Together, we are fostering a deeper connection to the environment while addressing the pressing challenges of climate change. Stay tuned for updates as we bring this initiative to life!
