Aeroponics for Food Sovereignty

Our Aeroponics for Food Sovereignty project is an exciting step toward addressing food security and sustainability in the Haíɫzaqv community. By introducing innovative growing techniques, we are working to increase access to fresh, locally grown produce while reducing our environmental footprint.

Supporting Local Food Sovereignty

Project Milestones

We are proud to share some key achievements so far:

  • Secured all materials needed for the first year of growing.

  • Selected our initial crops: strawberries, peppers, and herbs, with plans to expand based on research and community input.

Facility Plans

The fish plant has been identified as the ideal location to house our aeroponic units. We are currently awaiting final leasing approval. If the fish plant is unavailable, a greenhouse has been prepared as an alternative location, ensuring the project moves forward without delays.

Timeline

  • February 2025: Facility setup begins.

  • March 2025: Aeroponic growing operations commence.

Our timeline reflects our commitment to delivering fresh, locally grown produce to the community as soon as possible.

Community Benefits

This project will bring fresh, healthy produce to the Haíɫzaqv community, available for purchase at the bandstore. The benefits include:

  • Improved access to affordable, nutritious food.

  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions by minimizing transportation of produce.

  • Progress toward a more sustainable, self-reliant future.

Looking Ahead

We are committed to keeping the community updated on the progress of this initiative. Stay tuned for more details as we move closer to launch. Together, we are growing a better tomorrow.
